May’s Ouchigohan: Kei-Chan Yaki & Strawberry Matcha Latte
This May, USJETAA is excited to host our おうちごはん (OUCHIGOHAN) cooking class! There is no better way to celebrate the warmer weather than with simple, delicious recipes you can easily recreate at home, even with busy spring schedules. This family-friendly online class gives you the chance to cook along from your own kitchen or simply watch and enjoy.
This session continues the EdamameChamp theme with Kei-chan yaki, a specialty of Gifu Prefecture: flavorful miso-marinated chicken thighs stir-fried with cabbage and vegetables. Rice with spring peas adds a light, seasonal touch. We’ll finish the class with a strawberry matcha latte. Once you learn the trick to this popular drink, you’ll be able to make it at home anytime and save yourself a café trip. This class is simply delicious!
Here’s a description of each dish:
Kei-Chan Yaki: miso-marinated chicken thighs stir-fried with cabbage and vegetables
Rice with Spring Peas: a simple, seasonal rice dish that pairs perfectly with the main
Strawberry Matcha Latte: a refreshing cafe-style drink you can make at home
We’re especially happy to be part of this series and to offer a chance for the JET community to reconnect with Japan through food, while learning to make the dishes many of us miss. You’ll also get to cook alongside other JET alumni and connect with members of Japan America Societies across the country.
