October Ouchigohan: Onigiri Action Month
Our friends at the Japan America Society of North Carolina (JASNC) are teaming up with Table for Two to host the October online cooking class celebrating Onigiri Action. USJETAA members are invited at the member rate.
Onigiri Action is an annual global campaign that ties the simple act of making and sharing onigiri to supporting school meals for children around the world. This month’s Ouchigohan online cooking class puts a modern spin on the classic onigiri with onigirazu, the sandwich-style cousin. You'll make two versions (ham, cucumber & egg and shiitake & spinach) along with kabocha no nimono, a cozy simmered squash dish that tastes like autumn in Japan.
The class is taught by Debra Samuels, lead curriculum and recipe developer for Table for Two USA's Wa-Shokuiku program, cookbook author and recipient of the John E. Thayer III Award for her contributions to US-Japan cultural exchange. She lived in Japan for 12 years and did a lot of cooking while there, so you're in very good hands.
